Here are some of my favorite Japanese YouTube channels:
I can’t remember how I stumbled upon this channel but i am glad i did. I’m still not sure what draws me back time and time again, I guess it’s how simple the presentation is. But most importantly for me it’s homey, the kind of food you’d like to cook at home and enjoy. It’s like watching a family member cook food right in front of you. Sometimes he cooks for himself and other times for his daughter. He also shares his stories about his past and why he enjoys cooking.
This channel is mostly focused on making bentos, a mother shows you her progress of creating bentos for her husband and son. They’re not chara-bentos but she does display the food in a cute and tasty manner. She doesn’t give detailed instructions of how to prepare her food but you can make the gist of it if you are familiar with cooking, still I quite enjoy watching her cook and it also gives me neat ideas for how to place food into my bento.
Although focused mostly on desert her content is quite enjoyable, she creates japanese fused sweets as well as character themed cakes. Everything is this channel is cute and elegant, cookies, cakes and crepes she covers everything and sometimes features tutorials for bentos. I’m not much of a sweet tooth myself but i can’t help watching her videos, everything is prepared so tenderly it always keeps my focus.
Although not focused heavily on Japanese food, peaceful cuisine does present a healthy alternative in case you are trying to keep an eye on your health. The reason I enjoy this channel is because as the name might suggest its peaceful to watch. If you are also into ASMR this channel produces videos in the style. The recipes include vegan friendly dishes and healthy alternatives to your favorites, definitely worth checking out.
I’m sure you saw this coming, pretty much every Japanese food fanatic knows who Francis and chef are. The channel holds a special place in my heart, it was the first channel to introduce me to Japanese food, it has been going for 8 years now and has developed a huge following ever since. Having a cute poodle narrate cooking instructions was such an adorable idea, it taught so many people the basics of Japanese cuisine from sushi to yakitori. I can binge watch this channel to no end, and I have tried so many of their recipes and loved them, so i couldn’t help not putting them on my list.
