A little disclaimer, i’m not some health expert nor am i 100% sure about the health benefits of this drink. So if you think you want to recreate this drink make sure to do some research or check with your doctor about it.
You’ve probably seen one of these drinks in a farmers market or online on a health blog. when i first stumbled upon this drink in a little cafe i was confused, how can someone make a drink black without using black food coloring. In the ingredients it mentioned “activated charcoal” so after that i went home to investigate.
Turns out there exists a powder made from burnt up coconut shells and other products that is actually used for many medical purposes. They claim it whitens teeth, calms down acne and most importantly, is a great way to detox your body. Whether or not is true it all depends from person to person. As someone who’s suffered from stomach problems since the age of 15 i decided to give it a try.
I tried it from many different brands, some i liked some i didn’t. In the end i tried recreating it at home. It’s really quite easy, just regular lemonade and some capsules of activated charcoal. I got mine from the pharmacy. I really wanted to make this from scratch since i am not really fond of store-bought lemonade.
For my recipe i used
1 Cup Water
1 lemon
1/2 lime
1/2 Cup agave syrup (or any other sweetener you have)
Pinch of himalayan sea salt(optional)
And of course 2 charcoal capsules.
I pretty much adjusted it to my liking, feel free to mess around with the recipe to make it your own.
I only have mine once a month since the charcoal might be a bit too intense for the body.
I’m going admit i quite like the idea of black drinks that aren’t soda, plus it sorta helped me out with my stomach pains so i hope you get to try it out!
Thank you for reading!

I have a difficult stomach too, so this sounds very interesting. I know charcoal is supposed to help and absorb excess acid, but I never considered drinking it as a lemonade. Does it taste good? Also: love the skull glass!

It surprisingly tastes like regular lemonade! I thought the charcoal would alter the taste a bit but it didn’t. Thank you so much 😀
