So for some reason i have developed this obsession with plants over the past couple of months, why? i have no clue. Especially succulents, there is something about them that amazes me. They’re like regular plants but they look like flowers, they have gorgeous petals that come in a vast variety of shapes and colors. I immediately knew i wanted to fill up my space with them.
I had this skull that my friend gave me, they were leftover Halloween props she had. I was pretty excited because i had so many ideas i wanted to try out with the plastic skull, In the end i decided to go for a terrarium. I like plants and i like skeletons so why not mix them both together. This is a great way to display your favorite plants if you are a fan of the macabre.
Things you’re gonna need:
A source of heat ie; Candle or huge lighter
Spray paint (optional)
Plants of your choice of course
And potting soil
So once you gather your materials the first thing you are going to want to do is heat up your cutting tool, i used an old box cutter because the blade is going to get pretty black.
The hot blade is going to help soften the plastic since you are going to want to make an incision in the parietal lobe. you can choose how ever low or high you want the pot to be. once you are capable of inserting the knife inside you are going to start cutting off the top. If you are finding it hard to cut around i suggest getting a candle and heating up the blade every once in a while.
Here i’m just sanding the edges with a file to get rid of the jagged edges, it doesn’t have to be super smooth since the plants can cover up most imperfections.
Now that you have your pot ready time to pick your plants!
As i mentioned before succulents are my favorites, i picked different sizes to see which can fit best.
Now its time to assemble! Use the potting soil and add it to a level you find suitable. From here you can plant them to your liking.
And there you have it! Your own little Skull terrarium, i decided to spray paint mine black but you can leave it as it or spray paint it with whatever color you prefer.
You can place it on your desk or near a windowsill like i did, just make sure that it gets enough sunlight so the plants wont get leggy.
Plants are really quite beautiful and are a great way to bring a little life into your space.
So that’s pretty much it, if you love plants and are a fan of gothic home decor i think this might be right up your alley. You can add cacti, fake flowers or whatever comes to your mind. Anyways hope you have enjoyed this idea, i plan to make other goth-y DIY tutorials on this site to decorate my room so stay tuned.
